The Report
Final 7. Out at AZ is always a difficult task for PSV. So too today. The weather was beautiful, but that was also the only thing that was good today. As we were used to starting in recent weeks, today was completely different. No fight, no fighting spirit, no winning the duels. Until half time we are the better side but we don't force enough in front of their goal. And AZ did not come close to our goal at all.
After halftime we tackle things a little differently and the game becomes faster, but also more sloppy. The last pass is far too often careless. Then AZ comes out sporadically, resulting in a penalty. 1-0 for AZ. We have to start all over again. About ten minutes later the score was equal because a defender put a cross from Joell behind his own goalkeeper: 1-1. Now to push on. But it is AZ who have a breakaway in the last minute of the game and score the 2-1.
The good starting position we had before the start of the match is gone again. The other opponents are back on par in terms of loss points. Now on to Italy to show the defensive talent there that the football of the Dutch school is indeed effective and successful. Good luck in Italy.
Lineup: Van de Meulenhof, Teze, Soulas, Obispo, Tanriver, Sadilek, Gakpo, Hattu (78th Fernandes), Piroe, Lonwijk ( 80th Daneels) and Konings (57th Catic).
