  1. Match report

In many ways, the PSV o15 and PSV 1 teams show similarities this season. Both teams lost points in the race for the championship in games where you did not expect it. Often the loss was not because no chances were created, but because the numerous chances were not converted into goals. On top of that, the opponents in the match against PSV proved to be deadly efficient.

In addition, both teams have already been eliminated from the cup and both will play two league rounds before the winter break. And there are parallels there too: both the o15 and PSV 1 played this Saturday against the red lamppost (VVV Venlo and Go Ahead Eagles respectively). And: both teams play next weekend against the currently (shared) leader Ajax. A lot of similarities as you read..... The big difference is that the o15 is about training players, creating an environment where they can make mistakes and learn from them. While at PSV 1 it's about performance and getting results.

So VVV Venlo for the o15. Last weekend they finally got rid of "the hateful zero" with a 0-1 victory at Fc Twente. That same result was also on the scoreboard last Saturday at De Herdgang after the match between PSV and AZ. With which PSV (for the time being) relinquished 2nd place on the league table and dropped to number 4.

Would PSV succeed this time in taking the 3 points back to Eindhoven? And boost their self-confidence with good play and lots of goals, so that next week they can offer maximum resistance to leader Ajax?

Right from the kickoff, PSV dictated the game. VVV pulled back and, as they say these days, "parked the bus there." At times it even looked like a double-decker. Still, it took several minutes before PSV asserted itself. Distance shots by Emmanuel Matuta and Joep Kluskens were the only feats in the early stages.

After 12 minutes Mathijs Tielemans took a free kick. The ball reached the head of Joost de Schutter who headed it in only to see it hit the bar via the goalkeeper's fingertips. Then it was a piece of cake for Kees van Lindert to score the 0-1.

Also after the opening goal, PSV had the ball and the game played entirely on the Venlo half. Goalkeeper Robin Verhoeven had to act only once when a VVV player tried to surprise him with a distance shot. He caught the ball without any problems.

PSV was sloppy in the final phase, so they did not get many chances. Crosses to Jeremy Antonisse and Amin Doudah were just off the mark. Still, PSV ran out to 0-2 in the 30th minuuy. Nigel Lonwijk delivered a superb cross that Kees headed in.

After half time the picture remained the same: PSV had the ball and VVV retreated to their own half. After a cross from Jur Clabbers sailed just over Jeremy, the guests still made it 0-3. Jeremy passed his opponent on the left and crossed the ball perfectly. From close range, however, Jur worked the ball against the crossbar. The attack continued and the ball ended up at the feet of Joep Kluskens, who coolly shot the ball into the corner of De Koel Stadium.

Match definitely played you would say. And so it was. PSV still tried to increase the result, but were no longer successful. Indeed, the only one who scored was VVV after they were awarded a free kick in the 59th minute. This was pumped high into the 16m where a VVV player won the header and scored the extra goal.

PSV easily won the away match at VVV and can focus on the match against Ajax. To stay in the top three points are crucial. Ajax can also lose games, as Vitesse beat the Amsterdammers 0-3 earlier today.
