Strong PSV O13 forgets to reward itself against FC Utrecht

Early Saturday morning, PSV O13 played a draw against FC Utrecht. The match ended as it started: 0-0. Based on the field play, however, PSV did themselves quite wrong with this, as the Eindhoveners had the best of the game.

Whereas PSV regularly struggled to create chances in previous weeks, that was absolutely not the case on Saturday. The team had FC Utrecht's back against the wall for the first half hour and had at least five excellent goal-scoring opportunities. Brian van de Boogaard was dangerous from a corner, Raf van de Riet saw his shot stopped by the goalkeeper and Eus Waayers and Jayden Ettienne both had good shooting opportunities. However, all chances were missed. After about twenty minutes, Eus Waayers had the biggest Eindhoven chance. After a sharp cross from Raf van de Riet, the striker had the corner to choose from. However, unable to get his head to the ball properly, the ball bounced well wide of the goal.

FC Utrecht could do nothing against that until then, but got the biggest chance of the first half just before halftime. After a deep ball the fast Utrecht striker could only go for goalkeeper Daan van de Brande. The keeper narrowed his goal well and was eventually able to take the ball away. It was the last chance of the first half.

After halftime, the picture changed somewhat. PSV still remained on top, but could not put Utrecht under as much pressure as in the first half. The Eindhoven players were dangerous on a number of occasions, but no real 100% chances were created. The biggest chance was even for the Domstadelingen, but Daan van de Brande saved his team again in a one-on-one situation. Just before time, PSV still had the opportunity to decide the match. A fantastic pass from Joep Vermeulen put Jayden Ettienne face-to-face with the Utrecht goalkeeper. However, his shot lacked power and direction, allowing Utrecht to easily clear the ball.

So although PSV O13 played a good game, the team failed to score the decisive goal. Next week PSV O13 plays another home match, when AZ comes to visit. A nice test for the team, as the Alkmaarers are the league leaders.
