Today the topper between numbers 1 and 2 was scheduled. Both Sparta and PSV had 9 points from 4 duels. The guests from Rotterdam suffered a defeat at home against Ajax, PSV lost to AZ last weekend. Who would take the 3 points today and stay on top?
PSV started the match brightly and immediately showed from the first whistle that there was nothing to be gained in Eindhoven today. It also reinforced that signal by taking the lead as early as the third minute. After the Sparta goalie cleverly tipped Sami Bouhoudane's effort out of the corner, the corner yielded a goal after all. Raf van de Riet kicked the ball with feeling into the penalty area, where defender Sven van der Plas then put his head against it and headed in the 1-0. PSV clearly remained the better team and had plenty of ball possession. Quietly it lurked for the right moments to strike. It created chances, but was unlucky that a shot by Sven hit the crossbar, Floris Bos headed wide and Onesime Zimuangana just missed a shot after an action by Sami. Sparta did not have much to say. The first, real Rotterdam shot only came after almost half an hour of play. Niek Janssen tapped the ball well into a corner, which indirectly created another chance for PSV. Because through a quick switch Onesime got into a promising position. However, the Sparta goalie turned away the PSV player's effort. After 35 minutes the 2nd Eindhoven goal finally came. Sven played Onesime well, who was able to pass the ball around the halfway line to the deep Sami. Because Sami was faster than his opponent, he was able to advance towards the Sparta goal and score the 2-0. Both teams were threatening one more time before halftime. First Sami was run over in the box, but the referee ruled that the ball was played first, and in the counterattack Nicolas Verkooijen blocked a Sparta shot well at the last moment.
After halftime, PSV had a slightly harder time with Sparta. PSV could have scored in the early stages, but Jordy Bawuah and Joep Vermeulen both saw their shots go wide. Sven also showed his offensive skills when he almost headed a fine free kick from Peter Quispel. After an hour the 3-0 finally came. The build-up went via goalkeeper Niek after which Merijn van de Wiel cleverly sent Onesime away. Onesime rounded the offending goalkeeper and coolly slid in the third Eindhoven goal. With 12 minutes to play Jordy put the final score on the board. After a good attack on the right Eus Waayers served him after which Jordy simply put the final score on the scoreboard. An excellent save by Niek just before the end of the game helped keep the score down.
So a fine victory by the O15 who played very dominant especially in the first half. Next week follows the home game against Nac Breda.
