Good morning all. After a, I hope for everyone, sunny vacation, today is the day. The new competition is upon us.
After a thorough preparation with good results in the tournaments and the cup game that have been played, today is the start of the league.
For me personally this match will pass me by as I am in a race against the clock, or rather a race against the pot, a race which I eventually did win, it is not possible for me to make the bus ride to the always beautiful Volendam.
We start well. The organization is in place. The first twenty minutes are for us and after 23 minutes it is Joell who brilliantly scores the deserved 0-1. As I said, we were better and the recovered Gianluca showed some nice things, but unfortunately he could not score. Justin did find the net in the 30th and 39th minute, twice thanks to Joell. We went into the locker room with a deserved lead and with peace of mind.
On to the second half.
In the beginning the game was still reasonable but Mike had to perform well a few times, as we are used to. Then, after about an hour, some substitutions follow with an eye on next Tuesday's match against Atl. Madrid in the Youth League.
Then we slowly lose the grip on the game. Volendam became stronger and managed to score after about 70 minutes. Nothing wrong yet, but a warning. Shortly after the tying goal, Volendam scored again. 2-3.
Now it is getting a bit hot and the temperature is helping.
We get through the last ten minutes unscathed, but then the referee decides, and the reason is still not clear, that he wants to enjoy his performance and adds another ten minutes.
These too pass, fortunately, unscathed. We get on the bus towards Eindhoven with the well-deserved three points, but with a warning that things will have to be different in the coming games if we want to achieve the ambitions we have this season and which have been expressed.
Anyway, the win is there and as has been said many times along the line: the intention is good.
Pieter thanks for the substitution.
Men on to Tuesday and good luck then again.
See you on Tuesday.
Bye.
