PSV O13 loses KNVB Cup semifinal

After an exciting semi-final, PSV O13 has been eliminated in the KNVB Cup. In and against Volendam, the hosts won 2-1. An unnecessary defeat, because the Eindhoveners can play better than they showed.

The match was only four minutes old when both teams had already missed a huge opportunity. On behalf of the Eindhoveners, Brian van den Boogaard hit the crossbar from a corner, something FC Volendam's striker repeated a minute later. The third big chance, and the second for Volendam, came when Daan van de Brande was unable to handle a long-distance shot from outside the penalty area, allowing a Volendam attacker to score easily. PSV did not give up and equalized right from the kickoff. After a duel in the penalty area, Eus Waayers was awarded a penalty by the referee, which Robin van Duiven easily slotted in. After this shower of chances, the level went down a bit: the O13 had difficulty getting a grip on Volendam's fierce play and was too restless in possession to create good chances. With a 1-1 score the teams went to the dressing room.

In the second half, PSV gained more control of the game. The duels were won and more chances were created. Brian van den Boogaard was again dangerous from a corner, Robin van Duiven shot over from close range and Eus Waayers was dangerous from distance. At the other end, Volendam's two fast attackers remained on the alert. Just before time this went wrong. PSV did not clear the ball well at the back, so the striker of the hosts got possession of the ball. With a low shot he scored the decisive goal.

An unnecessary defeat for PSV O13, which eliminated the team from the cup. The Eindhoveners did not get into their game and did not deal well enough with the chances they got. The coming weeks Hidde van Boven's team will not play any league games, but there are two nice and instructive tournaments scheduled in Spain and England. The next league game is in May, when Vitesse visits De Herdgang.
