PSV C2 defended their leading position today at the Herdgang against FC Volendam. The Volendammers are penultimate in the rankings, but that no opponent should be underestimated would prove this match.

PSV starts the match well and creates several good opportunities. However, the 1-0 comes not from a good attack, but from good pressure from Joey Konings who intercepts the ball in the Volendam defense and shoots hard himself. However, instead of taking advantage of the opportunities and running away themselves, PSV scores a goal after 10 minutes. After the 1-1, the team lost it for a quarter of an hour. Passes do not arrive, duels are lost and the second ball is always for Volendam, which takes a 1-2 lead after mistakes at the back. About ten minutes before halftime, PSV gradually comes back into the game. This leads to the 2-2 by Matthias Verreth, who heads in a cross from Lennerd Daneels. Although PSV started to play better football again, it is Volendam that takes a 2-3 lead shortly before halftime after a quick attack.

After the break, PSV seems to realize that they cannot afford to lose any points against Volendam if they want to stay in contention for the championship. In any case, they are working hard and we regularly see nice attacks. From one of the PSV attacks Lennerd scores the 3-3 with a nice lob from Matthias. Then PSV again fails to score several times: Zohair Labyad shoots against the goalkeeper on a Dante Rigo pass, Mink Peeters shoots just wide and a deep pass from Giovanni Nicolaas is just not capitalized by Jaell Hattu. Still, PSV took the lead when a cross from Lennerd was worked in by Matthias: 4-3. Volendam also remains dangerous at times in the second half, especially with distance shots. After the 4-3, goalkeeper Ieke Scheerhoorn keeps his team ahead with a great save. In the end PSV runs out to 5-3 through Matthias and almost in the final whistle Volendam scores 5-4. A hard fought, but well deserved victory for PSV C2 that continues to lead the league table with 15 points from 5 games. Next Tuesday at 17.30 the C2 plays the topper against Ajax in Amsterdam.
