Tricky in the lower regions
Whereas the weather conditions were turbulent with gusts of wind and rain, it was different on the pitch. It was a game with messy phases, the ball was often played behind the man and too many actions were needed to transport the ball further. We also often did not open up, which took the pace out of the game. All this also resulted in the ball being in the net after eight minutes. Goalkeeper Van Lare slipped slightly on a cross and, as a result, punched the ball the wrong way, allowing NEC to shoot in the 1-0. PSV's play really did not improve and few chances were created.
After halftime, the team had to pick it up better. But due to a different interpretation by the referee about two players holding an opponent at the same time, NEC made it 2-0. A decision that was questionable. PSV O17 found out once again that playing in the lower echelons is not always easy and that it takes more than just two players reaching their normal level. We will again have to act more as a team to get the necessary points in order to climb the league table.
Good luck next week!
