Unfortunate
PSV D2 - Fortuna Sittard D1
March 9, 2011
0-1
On the midweek Wednesday our D2 had to face another appealing opponent: the Fortunes D1 from Sittard. A large number of PSV teams were practicing against Club Brugge at the PSV complex, so it was a lively crowd at the Herdgang.
The D2 was programmed on field 7, at the back of the complex against the edge of the woods. Pleasant for the nature lover but less so for our football players because this field 7 is by far the least field on the complex. But also once again good for the boys to play on a worse pitch.
Today's opponent was the one year older Fortuneese and then you know that it is important to let the ball do the work, and avoid the physical duels. This succeeds well and after an even start, the D2 begins to gain dominance in the match. Most of the ball possession is for the D2, and chances come regularly. Fortuna has a strong and fast team and in the transition they are also dangerous.
Most chances are still for the D2 but as Frank de Boer also said about the game against Moscow, "today was such a day. Amar in front of the kiep ... just not, Cody ... just not, shot opportunity Justin ... just wide, free kick Cody ... cleverly caught by the goalkeeper, cross Steven ... just blocked.
In a quick conversion Fortuna manages to find the net. Pepijn thinks he can calmly catch the ball, but a small ball bounces away and Pepijn has to release it. The attentive Fortuna attacker shoots, the ball is stopped, but in the rebound it is 0-1 for Fortuna.
After the break the game remains the same. PSV has more ball possession, Fortuna is fierce and lurking on a fast counter. Amar in the striker is found several times but strong defense of the long Fortuna last man and the excellent goalkeeper keep Amar from scoring every time. The almost always reliable Roland also gets an open chance, but when Roland also does not put the ball in today, you begin to believe that it will not happen today.
Fortuna gets good chances through fast breakaways, but due to excellent defense and goalkeeping, the 0-2 is not scored. Arne celebrates his birthday with a magnificent glide into the left corner.
It is to be praised that the D2 makes frantic attempts to equalize. Energy and tempo are increased, at the back 1 on 1, will it still work? But no... Fortuna holds on and so there is a defeat for the D2 since long. The last defeat dates back to August 28. Then a series with 24 wins and 1 draw!
And the draw was against Oranje Wit, and that awaits us next weekend.
