  1. Match report

This Wednesday evening the postponed match of last Saturday is scheduled because Eindhoven had a tournament in Sittard last Saturday. Our league opponent Fortuna also played here and both teams did not do badly against mainly 2nd division opponents. Which just goes to show that the league in which our boys act is no Mickey Mouse league. PSV swept Belgian Westerlo 5-0 last Sunday. The sickbay was quite full the last week, but was emptied before tonight. The sick are given some rest for the first half and at 6 p.m. the referee whistles for kickoff. Eindhoven made their intentions clear from the start and tried to disrupt PSV's build-up with early interference. PSV does not seem intimidated by this and tries to reach the forward through good combination play. As Eindhoven's average length is considerably higher, the free man is easily found so that duels can be avoided. Should things go wrong once in a while, we would have to be careful in the transition. After 10 minutes, an Eindhoven player slipped through the net and beat Kyan to give us a 1-0 deficit. PSV continued to combine well despite the deficit and after 15 minutes Mo was sent into the depth. In a sprint duel with his opponent who is 2 heads taller, he stays ahead, but his shot can be defused by the Eindhoven goalkeeper. The match mainly takes place in the midfield where PSV dominates technically, but Eindhoven compensates this with work ethic and physical superiority where there are also a few handy guys walking around. This creates a nice 1st half where the pace is very high. PSV gets another small opportunity in the 1st half through Bryan from a corner kick, but he just can't head it in. The pundits along the sideline analyze the 1st half and the conclusion is that Eindhoven must have given a lot of power in the first half and that the second half will correct the deficit. Indeed the power that Eindhoven had the 1st half ebbs away a bit so our boys get a bit more time. Several nice actions and combinations can be noted and there are several oe’s and aa’s along the sideline. On an action of Davy even C.Ronaldo would have been jealous. But we are still 1-0 behind. The equalizer comes 12 minutes before time after Arne effectively finishes his own action with a shot. PSV is looking for more and we have to be careful with the deep balls. Edson has to come out well once more so that the Eindhoven striker cannot become dangerous. PSV continues to keep Eindhoven under pressure. About 4 minutes before time, Greg crossed to Benji from the left. Benji gets rid of his opponent and pokes the ball in. Once again PSV took the spoils in the closing stages of the match and can now carefully look up the rankings as the 4th place is in sight. A win is needed next Saturday in Aachen.
