The report
Saturday's match was scheduled against Feyenoord. The Rotterdammers have one point more in the league table than PSV. So with a win, a team is already sure of placement in the champions' pool. In case of a draw, it remains to be seen what the rivals would do.
PSV started the match strongly. In the fourth minute, Yorbe Vertessen was sent away in the sixteen meters, but he shot just wide. Coach Ruud van Nistelrooy's boys kept the pressure on the opponent. A good pass from Mathias Kjolo to Vertessen in the seventeenth minute resulted in another opportunity. Only his shot went just wide via the leg of a Feyenoord player. PSV created another handful of chances after that, only the sharpness was lacking. The goal for the home club was inevitable. Vertessen made a nice move that put his opponent in the shade with a panna, then accelerated towards goal and, face to face with the Feyenoord goalie, coolly shot in the 43rd minute. This lead was more than deserved.
Yet it was Feyenoord that became dangerous in the 45th minute. A shot from the penalty area landed on the post via a PSV player's leg.
After halftime, PSV struggled. And almost didn't come out again. The Feyenoorders put the Brabanders under pressure early. And made it difficult for them to play football. A distance shot in the 61st minute came off the bottom of the crossbar, but a Feyenoord player reacted quickest and headed in the 1-1. After this, the guests had some great opportunities. Fortunately, Kyan van Dorp was a stand in the way. The match ended in a deserved draw. With this point, PSV is now sure of the Champions Pool.
PSV O19 will play next Tuesday for the Youth League against Internazionale.
