    Deserved win O16 over Vitesse

PSV did good business in the barrage against Vitesse. If the points were shared last Friday in Arnhem, on Saturday the team won 1-0 in Eindhoven. This consists of the best teams from the two O16 competitions.

PSV started Saturday's game energetically and should have taken the lead as early as the fifth minute. Mylian gave a nice through ball to right striker Iggy, who came in and delivered a sharp inbounds cross. Ilyas slid the ball into the net at the far post, but it hit the post instead of the ropes. From the ensuing switch Vitesse came through dangerously in the PSV penalty area, but Rick caught the shot in the short corner. Less than a minute later, Ilyas was able to score on a pass from Jasper, shooting the 1-0 in a controlled manner into the corner. In the injury time of the first half, Vitesse's goalkeeper made a fine save to prevent the 2-0 for PSV when Iggy came in threateningly from the right and shot hard towards the far left corner. The score at halftime remained 1-0.

And that would eventually become the final score as well. Although a dangerously meager lead, Vitesse hardly managed to become dangerous in the second half and take advantage of the imposing number 9, who hardly featured in the game. PSV did have another good chance to increase the score to a safe 2-0. In the 49th minute, left back Nawaaz came through at full speed on the left flank and laid the ball well back to the incoming Mo, who, however, worked the ball just over the Vitesse goal. PSV was unable to create any more major chances in the second half and even came close to getting into trouble in the last 15 minutes of the match when central defender Jenson picked up two yellow cards within 15 minutes and was forced off the field 10 minutes before time. PSV were also shocked when Vitesse almost scored the equalizer from the edge of the penalty area, but Rick saw the ball go just wide.

Staff and players of PSV wish the Vitesse player who sat out Saturday with what is likely to be a broken metatarsal a lot of recovery.

PSV plays next Saturday at 12:30 p.m. against AZ.
