    Two faces against the leaders
PSV A1 against AZ A1 was a game with two faces. In the first half, the visitors from Alkmaar, led by former PSV coach Michel Vonk, had the better of the game and also managed to score. After half-time, PSV had the best chances and scored the equalizer. In the end, there might have been more in it for Roland Vroomans' team.

PSV and AZ started the match brightly, which immediately led to some tough duels. The first chance was for AZ player Roland Alberg. His shot was hard, but went just over the goal. Moments later there was a threat from AZ down the right flank. A slide by Kay Velda, however, ensures that only a corner remains. The corner is harmless and moments later PSV is allowed to go on the attack. Good chasing by Lars Hutten ensures that the ball reaches Yannick Rymenants. He passes the ball back to Hutten, but the goalkeeper comes out and saves. At the other end, midway through the first half, goalkeeper Zoet also has to come out. However, he is on the edge of the sixteen and, although he has the ball, gets caught in the duel. Fortunately, it is not too bad and the Veendam goalkeeper can continue. One of AZ's biggest chances follows later when Vincent Weijl is able to hit a cross to Alberg. His shot goes over. In injury time of the first half, PSV gets a free kick about twenty-five meters from the goal. The defense cannot get rid of the ball and Alberg gets the ball at his feet. The striker did not hesitate to take this gift and shot the 0-1 into the far corner. Moments later, the referee whistled for halftime.

At halftime, Nasser el Khayati is replaced by Nigel Hasselbaink. PSV clearly put more pressure forward in the second half and got off to a good start. Shortly after halftime, PSV equalized. In the penalty area the ball fell at the feet of Jasper Waalkens who, almost identical to his opponent Alberg, took a shot and hit the nets. PSV keeps pressing and AZ hardly gets out of the danger zone. Yannick Rymenants could deliver a fine cross to Lars Hutten, but the top scorer headed just past. This is followed by three great chances for Nigel Hasselbaink. Hutten passes to the small striker, but the AZ goalkeeper is attentive. In the other two moments the cross came from Rymenants, who was allowed to advance dangerously on the left flank. Twice, however, the shot is blocked. PSV keeps pressing and tries to force a victory over the frontrunner in the Eredivisie for A-juniors. Substitute Youness Mokhtar can just keep in a cross from Eelco Horsten. After an action, he is able to deliver a cross, but Lars Hutten lacks luck today and heads just over the Alkmaar goal. AZ is not completely out of chances, as at the other end Eelco Horsten is just able to turn a ball before the line into a corner. PSV gets one last opportunity, but they cannot get past Deckers again. It remains 1-1 in Eindhoven, which given the whole match is a fair result, but based on the second half there might have been more for PSV.
