The report
After two good wins in away games (1-3 at Utrecht and 0-1 at sc Heerenveen), the home game against Feyenoord was now on the schedule. A match between numbers 3 and 4. The guests were fourth with one point less, but also with one less match played. In short: if PSV wanted to consolidate the third spot, they had to win at De Herdgang. As the Eindhoven team had yet to win a game this season from a team above them, it was a good omen that Feyenoord were one spot below them ... The game in Rotterdam earlier this season, by the way, ended in a 2-0 win for the Zuid-Hollanders after a mediocre match.
Because one of Feyenoord's drivers had passed away, a minute's silence was observed before the start. Naturally, we wish the family, friends and Feyenoord much strength.
After the kickoff, the first opportunity was for the home team. However, Milan van de Riet's shot was cracked in the third minute. A few minutes later, PSV mounted a fine attack. Unfortunately, Milan could not reach a player in front of the goal. Before halftime, both teams had a few more opportunities. PSV the most, Feyenoord perhaps the best. The home side also had the misfortune that just when Mylian Jimenez appeared free in front of the Feyenoord goal, the referee blew the whistle for a foul on the same Mylian. This left the Eindhoven side with only a free kick.
After halftime, PSV was immediately very dangerous. But unfortunately, Ruben van Bommel, who sprinted away, was whistled back for offside. Unjustified, video footage later showed. After a shot by Mylian sailed just over, Feyenoord came close to scoring the opening goal in the 52nd minute. After losing the ball midway through their own half, a Rotterdam player was able to make off with the ball. Fortunately the player shot wide. Both teams played for the win. The spaces became bigger and so did the chances. Goalkeeper Aron van Lare saved two long distance shots and PSV came close after Dylan Hopman headed over a fine cross from Martijn Zuijderwijk. PSV had another chance in injury time through Mylian, who saw his effort go just wide. But Feyenoord were also dangerous in front of the Eindhoven goal. With a bit of effort the home team kept the score at zero. The game ended as it started: 0-0.
