    PSV got off to an energetic start and after 16 minutes PSV was already leading 3-0. AZ was able to do something back before halftime. In the second half, PSV steadily increased their lead. In the end, PSV deservedly won this match rich in goals, 5-2.

    After only two minutes, PSV took the lead. Shi-jon Martina set up the attack on his own half and played the ball to Iggy Houben. With a nice curve ball Iggy played the ball to Shi-jon after which Shi-jon outmaneuvered an AZ defender and shot the 1-0 into the far corner. PSV continued and after a shot was caught by the AZ goalie in the sixth minute, PSV doubled their lead in the ninth minute. Initially, a shot by Milan Govaers led to a corner. The corner was half cleared by the AZ defense after which Jaivy Lourens left the AZ goalie defenseless with a tight shot from at least 20 meters, 2-0. PSV pressed on and that led in the 16th minute to a free kick about 25 meters from the goal. With a nice peal Milan Govaers shot the ball high into the goal, 3-0. After this large lead, PSV took a step back and AZ got better in the match. Initially this did not provide AZ with any real chances. However, in the 30th minute AZ was able to do something back. After losing the ball in the PSV midfield, the AZ striker was played in. With a handy touch, he scored the 3-1. Just before half time AZ had another chance to equalize, but the PSV goalie saved twice, so PSV went into the break with a large lead.

    PSV picked up right away in the second half. After three minutes, a free kick by Milan Govaers went into the wall. Sven Simons got the ball but his cross went past the goal but could not be tapped in by anyone. In the 40th minute, PSV did score. Milan Govaers played the ball to Shi-jon Martina. Shi-jon went alone towards the AZ goalie but he was brought down in the penalty area giving PSV a penalty kick. The penalty kick was shot in by Iggy Houben, 4-1. Five minutes later PSV had a great opportunity to score again. With a nice cross Sven Simons sent Shi-jon Martina away. His cross was initially shot against the AZ goalie and in the second instance wide. In the 48th minute, PSV had their sights on the ball. Milan Govaers played the ball to Iggy Houben. Iggy went alone to the AZ goalie and shot into the short corner to make it 5-1. Four minutes later the visitors managed to score the 5-2 through a nice free kick from almost twenty meters. Despite this large deficit, AZ continued to play football and tried to create chances. PSV backed off and let AZ play. This play resulted in a good chance for AZ in the 56th minute. An AZ player got free in front of the PSV goalie, but Kjell Peersman saved the shot with a fine save. AZ then tried to force something but hardly created any chances. In the last five minutes, PSV regained control and had a few more chances. However, they ran out of strength and were unable to convert the chances into goals. The match ended with a 5-2 victory.
