O16 picks up three points again

In the win streak that has been interrupted this season only by the loss at home against Ajax, O16 added another three points to its total on Saturday at PSV Campus De Herdgang against Vitesse and approached (with one game less played) leaders Ajax by two points.

PSV played creditably and managed to take a 2-0 lead within half an hour, but could not sit back as Vitesse took advantage of an awarded penalty on the stroke of half-time to stay in the game for a long time. After Jamal was earlier sent on goal by Seb but shot wide, he delivered an excellent assist in the 13th minute that was well worked in by Jason right in front of the goal, 1-0. What Chahid just failed to do in the 26th minute, shooting at the empty goal from long range but hitting the post, Tyron did a few minutes later. With already one of the best goals of the year, he put the 2-0 on the scoreboard on a pass from Jason, who sent him into space on the left. Instead of looking for depth, he took the ball and decided to shoot directly at goal well outside the penalty area. His fantastically placed kick fell just beyond the reach of the Vitesse goalkeeper into the Arnhem goal at the far corner at thefar post, 2-0 with a golden edge. PSV did not get long to enjoy the fantastic goal, however, as Vitesse was awarded a penalty just before halftime, according to the referee after a PSV player stepped fully on the foot of an Arnhem striker and prevented him from shooting. That was shot in with composure, 2-1.

In thesecond half, PSV were unable to gain a foothold over Vitesse despite a number of good chances, allowing Vitesse to stay in the game for a long time and almost claim the equalizer a few minutes before time when a cross was headed just wide. Well into injury time, PSV made it 3-1 when Jaivy was brought down by the goalkeeper and Milan controlled the penalty kick.

PSV will play the away match against De Graafschap, the number three on the league table, on Saturday, March 14 at 3 p.m. in Doetinchem.
