The first game of the season was lost against Sparta. Today we had the chance to put that right.
The physically stronger Sparta immediately started to put PSV under pressure which made it difficult for a while.
Where Sparta had success with that in the first game, it did not happen this time. PSV showed that they could play the same game and went full steam ahead. PSV was also strong on the ball, which gave them good control of the game.
In the 18th minute this resulted in the 1-0. Right back Lars was forward and put good pressure, captured the ball, gave it to Mathijs, who in turn played his man one on one and shot the ball with his left from the box. The game went both ways nicely, but neither team scored in the first half.
After the break PSV started well and scored the 2-0 after only 5 minutes. Through a great deep ball from Dennis to Thijs, a well measured low cross at the second post to Beslan, the ball was tapped in.
PSV showed again how good they can play football when they all go for it. Beautiful combinations combined with strong defensive work and at times a nice individual action.
There were no more goals in the second half, but that didn't make the match any less enjoyable. The spectators saw, under a nice spring sun, a very nice match between two good teams, of which PSV was clearly the better one today. Hopefully the sun will shine again next week when we play FC Utrecht at Herdgang.
