PSV had traveled to Amelo on Saturday for only one thing: results. In order to secure 6th place on the league table and thus qualify for the 2nd half of the competition 'new style',n 3 points had to be gained against FC Twente who had already qualified for that with 2nd position on the standings.
Although trainer Kristof's team were for once allowed to forget everything that has been hammered on all year in the interest of the result, they played a fine game despite the pressure. The match also got off to a dream start when Robin put the team ahead with a fantastic goal as early as the 1st minute. From about 25 meters, he took a ball badly handled by the Twente defense full on his shoe that hit the right cross like a grenade. A few chances later, after the Twente goalkeeper had plucked a ball out of the left crossbar after a good PSV attack, left striker Bobby, who made a good debut in his first official game for PSV, did not hesitate for a moment when the ball fell at his feet in the penalty area and he shot it hard into the right corner. 2 Minutes before halftime, PSV almost decided the match definitively from an action that could compete for the title best of the match. Central defender Jordan with a fantastic deep pass put the ball on the tie of Joël who took the ball on his chest between 2 defenders and took a direct shot, but saw his shot denied by the Twente goalkeeper.
As great as the first half started, the 2nd started unfortunate. Left back Tijn fell in a very unfortunate way soon after the whistle, breaking his collarbone as was soon evident. Still, PSV did not really come under pressure in the 2nd half as expected, and Twente could not really make a fist in attack either. The only really good chance for the team came in the 70th minute when a player got a free pass to Youri, but he made an excellent foot save and kept his goal clean. PSV then scored the 3rd goal it continued to chase. After a good action on the left in the 16, Joël laid the ball down well for Sekou who ran in well at the 1st post and shot the ball into the ropes with his left.
With this good game the O16 reached their goal for the 1st half of the competition, and can go into the winter break with a good feeling. The latter will be less true for unlucky Tijn. Team and staff wish him a speedy recovery and hope that he will be able to rejoin the group after the winter break.
