PSV D1 played a home match against Cortgene/JVOZ D1 on Saturday. Because the referee could not find his way to the Herdgang, the match started about three quarters of an hour late.
After a warm-up that lasted longer than the match, the match finally started at 12:40. Cortgene started brightly and put pressure early. PSV looks surprised for a moment, but that does not last very long. Soon Claudio Braga's men take control of the match. After some pinpricks, we already see PSV's opening goal in the 5th minute. The attack goes over the left via Roel van Linschoten, Mink Peeters and Giovanni Nicolaas. After some scissors, cap and drag moves by the threesome, Matthias Verreth is reached on the edge of the sixteen-meter area. Matthias decides to finish the beautiful attack just as beautifully with a placed curl into the top corner. It is 1-0 and the wait is for more. Indeed, in the course of the first half, PSV gets a number of opportunities to expand the score. Joey Konings almost scores when he shoots a cross from Lennerd Daneels with a volley over the goal and Gio shoots a bit later from the edge of the penalty area on a pass from Matthias. Roel almost scores after a corner from Mink but his effort also goes wide. Cortgene is dangerous in the first half only through a free kick that is defused by Aaron van Engelen. Lots of ball possession and a number of opportunities for PSV in the first half, yet it is only 1-0 at halftime.
After the referee on duty arrived at the Herdgang via 'Opsporing verzocht' the second half started. After halftime, PSV remains the dominant team which again leads to a number of opportunities. First it was Mink who sent Matthias deep; his shot hit the post and in the rebound Joey hit the bar. Things are not going well. Then Matthias is just not successful with a free kick and Jeroen Swinkels sees his distance shot fly just over the bar. Still it is only 1-0. After about a quarter of an hour Cortgene seems to score from one of the rare breakaways, but with an ultimate slide Koen Vos manages to prevent that. The ensuing corner yields a goal for the Zeelanders and it is 1-1. Unexpectedly, PSV has to hunt fanatically for the win. Time is ticking away, but the chances are coming. A Koen effort after a corner by Mink was cleared off the line and Mink shot just over after a pass from Matthias. Moments later a free kick by Dante Rigo sailed into the side netting, the goalkeeper saved a shot by Ties van den Eijnde and Matthias headed a cross from Mink just over. The game is nearing its end and Cortgene thinks it can get an unexpected point out of Eindhoven. PSV gets a free kick on the right side of the field. Tom Schepers brings the ball into the sixteenmeter, Joey puts the ball back and Ties takes the ball on his shoe in the bounce. The ball flies hard against the ropes for the liberating 2-1. PSV deservedly won, although they made it difficult for themselves by not taking the lead earlier. Because Willem II/RKC lose to Roda JC, the lead on the number 2 of the league table increases again.
