The report
Today the league match against AZ from Alkmaar was scheduled against AZ. On paper usually a tough match for the Eindhoveners.
PSV got off to a difficult start and was pinned down by AZ from the start. This resulted in a few small opportunities for the visitors. After fifteen minutes we got into the game better. A shot by Mo Ihattaren went just wide in the 20th minute. After this, the game played out largely in midfield, with PSV having a slight advantage. But there were no real big chances. Not until the 45th minute did Nigel Thomas have the biggest chance of the first half. A cross from the left by Ihattaren was well finished by Thomas, but an AZ defender got in the way. So both teams rested with a pair of glasses .
In the second half, PSV immediately went looking for the lead, which it deserved at that point. It was again Ihattaren who with a good action on the left served the incoming Koen Oostenbrink in the sixteen meters. His shot was hard, but on the goalkeeper's fists. Coach Ruud van Nistelrooy then had to make a couple of forced substitutions, as some of the lads were worn out after such a busy week with the UEFA Youth League in the legs. After that, both teams had a few more chances. AZ was satisfied with a point and PSV just could not get through the wall the Alkmaar players had built around the penalty area. The match ended as it had begun in a 0-0 final score.
PSV's next match for the league is on Oct. 20 at 2:30 p.m. at FC Utrecht.
