  1. Match report

PSV played Saturday at the Herdgang against AZ, who were convincingly beaten 1-3 in Alkmaar two weeks ago in the cup competition. In a match that was exciting from the first to the last minute, the guests from Alkmaar won this time. Despite the oppressive weather, the game was played at a high tempo. Although PSV struggled to get a grip on AZ's game in the first half, forcing unnecessary efforts, PSV created more good chances than Alkmaar. Already in the sixth minute Leandro had the 1-0 on his shoe when he dribbled into the 16 and appeared in front of the goalkeeper but shot too weakly, allowing the keeper to save easily. Five minutes later striker Joel claimed a penalty when he entered the penalty area at speed from the right and was floored by the last of several defenders he passed. However, the referee did not want to know about a penalty. After 17 minutes, the opening goal seemed to come when Lars combined with Justin on the edge of the 16-yard box, who shot the 1-0 into the short corner from close range. However, the Alkmaar goalkeeper made an excellent save on his effort. AZ had only been dangerous in front of the Eindhoven goal once up to that point, when a sharp cross was missed by everyone and everything. Completely against the odds, however, AZ took the lead in the 20th minute when the right-wing striker came in with the ball and decided to fire at goalkeeper Mike's goal from 25 meters out, leaving him defenseless with a brilliant swerving shot into the left crossbar, 0-1. After Justin missed another good chance after an action inside the 16 and Joel missed a cross after a good move by Amar, AZ made it 0-2 shortly before halftime when the striker from a clear offside position was allowed by the referee to go through on his own on the out coming Mike and slid the ball under him into the empty goal.

Although PSV started the second half well with a great chance in the 42nd minute when captain Armando shot against the goalkeeper from close range in a scrimmage, and after the coach's instructions the team had a better grasp of AZ's style of play, the guests eventually managed to increase the score to a flattering 1-4. Joel did score the tying goal in the 64th minute when the ball was played into his feet in the 16-yard box and shot into the free left corner, but AZ scored two more goals in the closing stages within 7 minutes from a good individual action and after a quick conversion.

All in all a good, but good and instructive, game against a good opponent who was more effective with the chances.
