O15 misses chance for win
After two narrow defeats in a row (4-3 against Utrecht and 2-1 against Ajax for the cup), PSV O15 played again at their own De Herdgang. With Heerenveen, it faced the bottom of the league table. In the away match, PSV struggled to take the win. Thanks to a goal from Iggy Houben it just managed to do so. In short: also this match the team of trainers Edwin de Wijs and Anthony Lurling had to go full steam ahead.
PSV started strongly and already in the first minute Sven Simons saw his slide go wide. Not much later, Ruben van Bommel also slid the ball past from a promising position. Because the home team's final pass was often just not good enough, it took until the thirteenth minute before PSV took the lead. After a deflected corner, Luc Netten delivered the ball to Iggy Houben, who in a melee of players managed to curl the ball into the far corner: 1-0. In the 20th minute Yaël Gil y Muinos headed in the 2-0 from a free kick by Sven, but unfortunately this goal was cancelled out for offside. After 22 minutes, Heerenveen became dangerous for the first time after Eindhoven lost the ball around the halfway line. The chance was wasted, but three minutes later the Frisians made the most of a mistake in the PSV build-up: 1-1. Before half time PSV had two more opportunities to take the lead, but both failed to produce a goal.
Also after halftime, PSV was the team with the most ball possession and the most chances. Ruben van Bommel and Iggy Houben both set each other free in front of goal on one occasion, but the ball would not go in. And if the goalie did get through, the guests were lucky that two shots by Iggy hit the post. The goalkeeper also turned away Frisian shots by Jaivy Lourens and Iggy, and shots by Luc Netten and Yaël went wide. Heerenveen lurked in the meantime on the counter and it was that Luc defended attentively in the 53rd minute to contain further danger from Heerenveen. The biggest chance was still for PSV when Ruben took the ball halfway through Heerenveen's half and sent Jaivy away. But Jaivy saw his shot turned away by the goalkeeper.
Thus, no more goals were scored in the second half and the game ended in a draw. PSV did themselves too short considering the number of chances and opportunities. Next week follows the away game against Ajax. And there we still have something to put right.
