Draw in Rotterdam
Last Saturday the away match against Feyenoord was on the program for PSV O14. The fifth time this season that both teams meet. Both teams are well matched, so spectacle is always guaranteed in these matches. The pitch was not great, it had been sprayed so much that the puddles were still on it. This was to the advantage of Feyenoord who are physically stronger than PSV. PSV on the other hand has to rely more on football, but that will be difficult on this pitch. As expected it was a difficult game for the guests from Eindhoven. Feyenoord were the better team, while PSV did little more than hold their own. That PSV went back to Eindhoven with a 1-1 draw was a minor miracle.
As expected, PSV had trouble with the pitch. Good football was not possible, so a lot of long balls were played by both teams. The physical duel that followed was usually a win for the Rotterdammers, simply because they are stronger. With some good saves, PSV goalkeeper Bart Hamers managed to keep his goal clean. In the last minute of the first half Bart was already beaten, but Jason van Duiven managed to get the ball off the line. PSV on the other hand was fighting more against themselves than against the opponent. Even playing the ball to the same color twice was difficult. Yet at halftime, the scoreboard still stood at 0-0.
PSV's plan in the second half was to make the spaces even smaller, stopping Feyenoord. In the 45th minute, Feyenoord scored the expected goal. Sloppy defending in midfield resulted in a quick loss of ball. The Rotterdammers managed to score from this conversion. Feyenoord remained on top after this goal, but PSV showed a little more fight and aggression and came forward a couple of times. Jason made another save by clearing the ball off the goal line. In the 60th minute Jason was sent off from his own half. With a great rush he bridged the half of the Rotterdammers. Being just a little faster than everyone else, he got one-on-one with the goalkeeper. With an unparalleled marker he gives the goalkeeper the slip and scored a world-class goal. The last ten minutes of the match saw the game wave back and forth as both teams hunted for the win. With some luck, there were even opportunities for PSV to take the win, but so were Feyenoord. Neither team managed to score again, however, and it's fair to say that PSV went back to Brabant with a stolen point.
Next week AZ O14 will visit us. An important match because the Alkmaarers have one point more than PSV, so they will have to win.
