With 5 games left to play and a lead of 5 points, the goal (= becoming champion) is getting closer and closer. Today the match against RPC, number 9 in the league, was scheduled. An icy cold wind once again made for wintry conditions.
The kick-off took place at exactly 10:30 a.m. on Aalsterweg. The visitors immediately sought the attack. This was interrupted by a foul by the home club. The ensuing free kick was a variant between Niels and Tijn. Tijn's shot could only just be turned away by the goalkeeper. At the other end, we had to watch out for the RPC counters. With long balls they kept looking for their attackers. In the fourth minute, fortunately it was Kyan who reacted attentively to such a long pass and intercepted the ball well. He immediately set Jay to work on the right side of the field. With a nice individual action he managed to shake off 2 opponents. His cross reached Arne at the far post and with a well-aimed shot he put the 0-1 on the scoreboard. The lead could not be enjoyed for long. Again a long ball reached the striker of RPC who without hesitation shot the ball behind Kyan. It was waiting until the 17th minute before the visitors became dangerous again, but it also immediately resulted in another goal. Now it was Niels who went well through on the left side of the pitch, with a nice cross he managed to put Gregory free in front of the goalkeeper. Eye to eye with the goalkeeper he remained ice calm and scored the 1-2. Again the lead was short-lived. One minute later RPC was allowed to take a corner, which again fell at the feet of a green and white who scored the 2-2. The visitors wanted to go into the break with a lead and on the stroke of half-time it was an attack set up by Tijn and Sem from behind. Again Jay was found on the right side and with a measured cross he was able to find Arne again. With his second goal he took care of a 2-3 lead. At the halftime signal RPC was allowed to take another free kick. An all or nothing kick again reached the striker who scored the equalizer for the third time.
The physical football of the home club had taken its toll and in the second half they could do nothing more than try to stop the ball. Which succeeded for four minutes. Then Sem made good use of the space on the right side, after which he allowed Arne to score his third goal of the game. Barely a minute later Sem tried his luck with a nice long distance shot. With the necessary effort the goalkeeper could work the ball out of his goal. In the 38th minute he too was without a chance. After a foul on Niels, Tijn took a free kick just outside the goal area. With a lot of feeling he turned the ball into the cross. The visitors continued to press well. Halfway through the second half Benjamin captured the ball in midfield. With a nice pass he found his compatriot Arne. At about 15 meters he took a devastating shot. The goalkeeper could not control the ball and Jay was quick to put it in the goal. The final chord was for Gregory, who after a nice cross from Tijn made it 3-7. The team returned to the Herdgang with a satisfied feeling and three points.
