PSV D2 today played the first game of the second half of the competition at home against Roosendaal D1. In the opening game of the season, PSV did not have it easy and only in the last quarter of an hour the team from Roosendaal was defeated 0-4. In the locker room, Twan Scheepers' team was surprised today by an appearance by Ali B., who had his own rap for each player before the game talk. Encouraged by Ali, the players took to the field.
Soon into the match it became clear that the opponent had come to Herdgang with a positive attitude. The team from Roosendaal doesn't just come to stop PSV, but wants to play football themselves and does so well. The first chance after 5 minutes is for Roosendaal. However, the effort is well defended. Not much happens in the next quarter of an hour. PSV does not get a chance to play football and that is to the credit of Roosendaal, who put pressure quickly and well and played along well. The team from Roosendaal seems to take the lead when a free kick from 25 meters is shot hard and high at the goal. With a great save, Ieke Scheerhoorn prevents the goal. Only after 20 minutes PSV creates its first chance. Matthias Verreth crossed and Zohair Labyad saw his effort twice blocked by defenders. A minute later it is Roosendaal that takes a deserved 0-1 lead after a quick attack. PSV seems to have woken up because 2 minutes later it is already 1-1 when Matthias fires in a Mink Peeters corner. Shortly after the equalizer Matthias sent Joey Konings deep, but his cross just failed to reach Giovanni Nicolaas and Zohair. Shortly before halftime there is another opportunity for Roosendaal, but fortunately for PSV the shot goes wide. Half-time score 1-1.
In the beginning of the second half Roosendaal has a slight advantage without creating any real chances. PSV didn't create any at first either, but halfway through the second half some opportunities arose and we saw some good combinations. First Matthias comes close when after a quick one-two with Gio, he comes just a toe's length too short to finish. A few minutes later there is a real chance for Matthias after an excellent pass from Zohair. However, the keeper narrows his goal well and blocks Matthias' shot. Not much later an identical situation: the introduction is now from Mink and again Matthias is blocked by the well outgoing goalkeeper. It starts to look more and more like the team from Roosendaal is going to take a point from Eindhoven, not undeserved by the way. However, just like last week, Twan Scheepers' men do not give up. The game may not always be that good today, but the effort is there. This time it is Mink who saves the day. In the penalty area, he outmaneuvered his opponent and shot the ball beautifully into the top corner: 2-1. The joy and relief in the PSV camp are great. After this goal there are some more opportunities for Mink and for D3-player Jordan Teze and we hold our breath at two free kicks by Roosendaal. No more scoring, however. A difficult victory for PSV, but fortunately they also score 3 points. Compliments to opponent Roosendaal that gave PSV the best opposition so far in the league.
