  1. Match report

From the beginning of the match, PEC Zwolle put PSV under pressure. This immediately provided PEC with several opportunities to score. In the eighth minute Jules kept PSV on their feet with a good save. Three minutes later PEC had a more than excellent chance to open the score but the ball was shot just wide. PSV struggled and barely got a chance to play football. In the 12th minute, PSV had the first chance of the match but the goalkeeper saved Mohamed's effort. One minute later, PEC took the lead. After a deep ball to the PEC striker, he outplayed the PSV defense and shot the 1-0. PEC continued unabated after that. PSV had little to contribute and had to try to limit the damage in this phase of the match. In the 15th minute PEC had another opportunity to score. A corner by the home club was tapped in by a PEC player. The ball was cleared by a PSV player but the PEC players claimed a goal. The referee let the game continue. Perhaps the footage will reveal whether the ball crossed the goal line. So a lot of things happened in this match. PSV, however, had no grip on the match. The home club was brighter and threw more energy into the match. In the last 10 minutes of the first half, PEC stepped back a bit, allowing PSV to get out from under the pressure. PSV got no further than a shot that went just wide. With a 1-0 score both teams went into the break. PSV was most happy with this score. PEC will have been dissatisfied with this half-time score because they failed to take further distance in the first half.

The second half presented a completely different picture. PSV started the second half combatively and immediately took the initiative. PEC needed many minor fouls to stop PSV. However, PSV did not manage to express the superiority in chances. The best chance was halfway through the second half for the home club. A PEC player came alone in front of the goalkeeper, he rounded Kevin but he lingered too long, allowing a PSV player to clear the ball from the goal line. With this he failed to put the game away early on. PSV went in search of the equalizer but due to the hurried play many passes did not arrive. Three minutes before time the equalizer did come. A cross from Mylian ended up with Martijn. From the edge of the penalty area he shot the 1-1. In injury time both teams had another chance to score. Mylan even hit the goal but the referee disallowed the goal because it was preceded by a foul. A win for PSV would also have been too much of a good thing.

In the first half, the home club was by far the superior side. However, they failed to express this superiority in goals. In the second half, PSV did something back. With a goal just before time, PSV still managed to take one point back to Eindhoven.
