  1. Match report

PSV D2 has started well in its first league match in the Second Division C. After a mediocre first half on the PSV side, Twan Scheepers' team took the full win against RKVV Roosendaal after halftime: 0-4. Or to stay in ERHAN's terms: the first cream on the cake is in. This tastes like more!
Alors; a bad first half. PSV did not get the ball, acted messily and lacked inspiration. Mitigating circumstance: the wind is directly against us and the new artificial turf is soaking wet from an earlier thunderstorm. Not surprisingly, the first chance is for Roosendaal, but Aaron van Engelen comes out of his goal alertly and prevents an early deficit. On the PSV side, Matthias Verreth fired a harmless shot at the goal of the (excellent) Roosendaal goalie after three minutes. The next chance takes a while to come and is for Joey Konings who shoots in from a corner well under the crossbar. However, the ball is tapped over perfectly by the Roosendaal goalie. A few minutes later it was again Joey who took an attentive shot from a header by Matthias, but again the Roosendaal goalkeeper was in place. At the other end, Roosendaal had some good breaks, to which defenders Roel van Linschoten and Ymanuel Hurkmans had to react sharply. As the first half progresses, PSV becomes slightly stronger, without impressing. Mats Grotenbreg tried a few times and Ertem Bölükbas also broke through a few times and in the 21st minute he released Ties van den Eijnde who immediately sent Joey away on the left. He was put down and Matthias' free kick was shot over. The last chance of the first half came from Danté Rigo who, again from a free kick, just missed the ball. His shot smothered in the Roosendaal defense.
In the first half (with wind in their favor), Roosendaal should have taken advantage of some chances, but in the second half the defense of the (otherwise very correct and sporting) opponent is over. That wind advantage for PSV, by the way, takes some time to materialize, because after a reasonable start, the game collapses again after about five minutes. Koen Vos' "goal" in the seventh minute is extremely timely. From a corner by Danté, Ertem, Matthias and Ties fired successively at the Roosendaal goalie. The goalkeeper and defense managed to turn the ball away time and again, after which Ties' effort ended up on the back (or butt?) of Koen and disappeared into the goal: 0-1. Four minutes later it is again captain Koen who sets a good example. Again from a corner, Koen gets his neck under the ball and leaves the goalkeeper defenseless: 0-2. Coach Twan made some changes and from that moment on the team really started to run. Matthias and Zohair Labyad get chances from a corner and Ties can fire at the goal from the second line. In the fourteenth minute Matthias whips the Roosenda goal twice from about twenty meters, but again the goalkeeper is well positioned. Then the eighteenth minute. Ymanuel steps up on the right along the line, gives the ball to Matthias who can go through alone but bumps into the Roosendaal goalkeeper. Two minutes later Matthias scores. From a free kick (as René predicted), the Belgian goalie shoots the ball cleanly into the far corner. A hopeless ball for the goalkeeper. PSV continues. A flat shot by Giovanni Nicolaas goes just wide and Danté creates danger twice, followed by a distance shot by Zohair. The fourth goal was beautiful when Roel reached Ties, Ties played Matthias into the penalty area, who turned at lightning speed and fired hard over the goalkeeper: 0-4. The match was then over, but PSV played samba again with a wonderful combination via Jeroen Swinkels, Ties, Ertem and Matthias. Matthias fires just a bit too high at the goal. From a corner by Zohair a ball hits the post, but 0-4 is a good reflection of the balance of power. Roosendaal has shown to have a good footballing team and can go a long way in this competition. PSV showed good combination football especially in the second half and can look forward to next week's home game against NAC with confidence.
