PSV does good business in Doetinchem

In line with the already peculiar league schedule, PSV traveled to Doetinchem on Sunday for the league match against the shared number 4 on the league table De Graafschap. In a match best summed up as 'solid', PSV did fine business. De Graafschap fell behind and PSV climbed to second place on the league table behind leaders FC Utrecht.

PSV struggled against the Superboeren in the first half, although they had a few good chances even then. After Naïm tested the woodwork twice, in the 16th minute with a fantastic shot on the post and twenty minutes later with a ball on the crossbar, Milan resolutely fired in a stray shot from Dylan at the far post shortly before halftime: 0-1.

PSV played better in the second half, although they had to concede 1-1 soon after the break after a messy goal by De Graafschap. However, Milan put things right a few minutes later with his second of the afternoon, a fantastic diagonal shot from twenty meters that hit the top left corner: 1-2. Less than ten minutes later Mylian secured the win by curling a free kick right on the edge of the penalty area into the right corner with his left leg: 1-3. Although PSV had a few more good chances to extend the score, Mo missed an opportunity in front of the goalie, the match ended 1-3. A fine result.

PSV has everything in its own hands. With three matches left on the calendar and one match less played, PSV can still pass leader FC Utrecht on the league table if they win in full. Considering the schedule, PSV plays the last matches against the three lowest ranked teams, this does not seem an unfeasible task, which would be a fine revenge for the first half of the season that ended with a hangover.

    Setup:
Kjell Peersman, D'Leanu Arts, Jenson Seelt, Jesse Giebels (56/Joep Kluskens), Nawaaz Landfeld, Dylan Hopman, Mo Nassoh, Mylian Jimenez, Ilyas Bougafer (49/Jasper Huijzer), Milan van de Riet, Naïm Matoug (60/Yael Gil y Muinos).
