The weather was a little less but the turf all the more beautiful and better, yes we were playing on artificial turf against AZ. A direct competitor in the standings. Both teams started the match brightly and PSV in particular had a strong presence in the first ten minutes. AZ did not know what to do with the way they played and in the fourteenth minute Elvio rushed along the line and sent in a sharp cross which Anthony found the right value and tapped in very controlled past the AZ goalkeeper. 1 - 0. PSV did not really get into trouble during the first half hour and during that period they could have had more than the 1 - 0 on the scoreboard. But after half an hour AZ came a bit better into their game and managed to create some dangerous moments. For now we managed to keep the defense closed and the halftime score was 1 - 0. It was clear that we had to do things differently in the second half than we did in the last quarter of an hour before the break to keep AZ at bay.
After the break both sides again played fiercely on the ball. After seven minutes a ball in our backline was not handled well and the number 11 of AZ managed to outsmart Nigel with a lob (without noticing it himself). After that AZ put more and more pressure which was also due to sloppy play on our part. With some substitutions in the team the coach tried to change the course of the game but we didn't get much further than an Elvio header next to the goal. Just before time it was Maikel who had a good shooting opportunity but due to fatigue, because of his long rushes, the shot was impure and the chance was lost. Not much later the referee finished the game and both trainers agreed that the 1 - 1 result was the right one. Next Saturday at home again against relegation-threatened NEC, who will certainly try to use physical play to take one or even three points from Eindhoven.
