Battered PSV takes full advantage in Alkmaar
PSV played the always tricky away match against AZ on Saturday with a depleted squad due to injuries. However, with even two players borrowed from the O14 on the bench, the team delivered an excellent performance by taking the full win back to Eindhoven. Scoring at the right moments proved decisive.
PSV had a difficult time in the early stages against AZ, which applied good pressure and won duels all over the pitch. Where AZ did not really get dangerous, PSV did. In the 13th minute Milan had the 0-1 on his shoe when he entered the penalty area from the right, but saw his shot stopped by the goalkeeper in the short corner. A few minutes later Jayden was even closer to the opening goal. A good individual action on the left in the penalty area ended with a shot on the outside of the post. In the injury time of the first half and thus at a psychologically very 'good' moment, Jayden managed to score the opening goal after all when he took the ball on his shoe after a deflected corner from 16 meters and left the goalkeeper defenseless: 0-1.
Just a few minutes after the start of the second half, PSV dealt AZ another psychological blow at a key moment, which the home club would eventually prove unable to overcome. After another good move, Jayden crossed the ball, which was then shot by an AZ defender in an attempt to clear it away against Jeremy's (wide) chest and into the net, 0-2. PSV would not relinquish the lead again and could play out the remaining half hour without really getting into trouble, with the technical staff even granting playing time to both (13-year-old!) O14 bench players. Although AZ managed to come back just before time with a fantastic long-distance shot from 25 meters by Gullit jr. that fell in behind Victor, the game was over. An excellent victory for O16. Next week the home game against Excelsior awaits.
