The report
In an enthralling first half, both teams were equal but did not score. In the second half, PSV's level went way down, allowing AZ to eventually win 3-0.
AZ put PSV under pressure from the start, but PSV played good football underneath. In the first 10 minutes, both AZ and PSV had an opportunity to score, but neither team capitalized on the opportunity. In the 14th minute, PSV had another opportunity to score a nicely set up attack involving several PSV players. However, the cross went wide. The game went up and down, with few real chances. AZ often used the long ball to their fast forward players, but PSV's defense stood well in the first half so that AZ could hardly create any danger. In the last ten minutes of the first half, PSV had a slight advantage but could not convert this slight advantage into real chances. With a 0-0 score both teams went into the break. The entire first half the tempo was high and both teams fought for every meter so that the spectators were presented with an attractive first half.
AZ started the second half brighter and forced PSV into defense. PSV was sloppy and often made the wrong choices. Only after ten minutes did PSV get out from under AZ's pressure. In the 45th minute, this produced PSV's first opportunity. After a corner was taken short, the cross reached the far post. However, the shot went over. This brief PSV revival was nipped in the bud by AZ one minute later. After a quick attack on the left, the cross was shot in hard, 1-0. PSV then tried to do something back, but it was unable to hurt AZ in the second half. PSV was still pressing, but AZ was able to take advantage of the speed in their team. In the 60th minute, an AZ player ran past some PSV defenders and shot into the far corner, 2-0. One minute later, AZ put the game away for good. After a quick breakaway, an AZ player outran the PSV goalie and shot 3-0. PSV could no longer make a fist and resigned, AZ pushed on but lacked conviction. The final score was 3-0.
