After three practice games, the season opens today against MVV D2. Given the fact that this team finished 2nd in the league last year, not exactly the least team. As mentioned last week we would physically stand up against an opponent from a bvo that is a year older, where last year these were opponents from an amateur club. At noon the referee blows for kickoff and the match can begin. PSV is immediately put under pressure by MVV and starts the match somewhat uncomfortably. At the back they check whether they had to build up or whether Kyan could put the ball further down. MVV get the first chance in this early phase, but Kyan catches the low ball into the bottom corner. After the coach made it clear that Kyan could just kick the ball out so that the duels could be fought on the halfway line, PSV got into the game better. After a free kick by Tijn, PSV comes dangerously in front of the goal, but the right leg is just missing. Moments later Sem gets a similar opportunity, but he too just cannot reach the ball. At the other end, in front of the PSV goal, good intervention by Kyan is necessary after a deep ball to the MVV striker. MVV regains more field advantage after fifteen minutes and this leads to a chance from their left winger who shoots over.
In the 25 minute MVV does get a 1-0 lead when a cross from the right is headed in by the outside left, who is a head taller than our rearguard. Three minutes later MVV makes it 2-0 when a free kick is put in front of the goal and is also headed in. So we go into halftime with a 2-0 deficit. MVV is more aggressive in the duels and is also not too afraid to pull a shirt. These are things we still have to pick up, but that is easy to say when you know that the opponent is usually a head taller. In the second half, we see a different pattern of play. Where in the first half MVV is still the dominant side, in the second half we see a stronger PSV. Now PSV is pressuring MVV and this leads to a possible goal by Niels. Moments later, PSV threaten to become dangerous from 2 corner kicks, but the efforts are blocked by MVV players. In the 5th minute of the second half MVV makes it 3-0 from a counterattack after again scoring from a cross from the side. After 15 minutes in the 2nd half, MVV throws the door in the lock by making it 4-0 from distance. PSV is not the lesser team this half but gets a lesson in effectiveness. 5 minutes before time a nice PSV attack deserved more, but Yassin's shot ends on the post and Davy's rebound goes over. Thus, based on especially the 1st half, the first game this season ends with a deserved 4-0 victory for MVV. With a bit of chauvinism a bit too flattered as a goal for PSV would have been deserved.
Next Wednesday in Sittard new chances.
