O15 wins over Twente
In mid-April, PSV O15 played its last official game. Then they drew 2-2 in Amsterdam against Ajax. Now it was finally allowed to take to the field again and faced the red lamppost in FC Twente. In February, Eindhoven won convincingly 0-3 in Tukkerland through three goals by Iggy Houben. A win today at least meant that PSV will also start next season at the highest level.
The first chance was for the guests in the third minute, but Niek Schiks rattled the hard shot out of his goal. A few minutes later, PSV thought it had taken the lead, but Iggy Houben 's goal was disallowed for offside. PSV took control and created a good number of opportunities. But there was a lot of stagnation in the final phase, where the final pass or occupation in front of the goal was insufficient. In the end, it took until the 19th minute before the home team took the lead. And for that it also needed some help from Twente. A mistake in the build-up by the Tukkers was worked into the enemy goal with some luck by Jaivy Lourens via the leg of the Twente goalkeeper: 1-0. Moments later Niek had to call on his qualities again to prevent an equalizer by quickly coming out and turning the ball with his leg. In the following attack, Jaivy also encountered the leg of the opponent's goalkeeper. In the 22nd minute, PSV had a flashy attack on the green mat: Ruben van Bommel sent Jaivy into the depth, with his turbo on, Jaivy rushed past his opponent and crossed to the incoming Iggy who shot the ball at goal, but unfortunately his shot went just wide. Just before half-time PSV failed to convert two more chances so the home team went into the locker room with a paltry 1-0.
After halftime, PSV struggled to get into the right rhythm. It also gave nothing away so there was little to enjoy in the first quarter of an hour. Then an Iggy effort was cleared off the line, a Milan Govaers free kick went narrowly wide, and Shi-jon Martina had a go at the goalkeeper. In the 57th minute, Chahid el Allachi finally decided the game. Shi-jon reached Chahid and the latter left the Twente goalkeeper defenseless with a slide into the far corner: 2-0. That was all that remained so PSV O15 qualified for next season in the highest division. Where it ends this season is still a big question mark. Leaders Vitesse did lose this round, but the gap with the shared number two PSV is probably too big. While the distance to the number six is in fact not there. In points lost, AZ has as many as Eindhoven.
Next weekend no league program for PSV O15, but a tournament at Charlton Athletic. Then it plays at home against Feyenoord on Tuesday, May 14.
