After last week's big win against leaders AZ, the B2 had a home game against FC Utrecht on Saturday, which had already been beaten in the cup competition earlier this season and was then beaten in a fairly straightforward manner. PSV also won this encounter, although the victory came about with some difficulty. Coach Twan Scheepers' team deserved a compliment for the number of 100% scoring chances they created. Where last week in the match against AZ almost all of those chances were converted, this week PSV struggled to score, which gave Utrecht the feeling for a long time that there was something to gain in Eindhoven, and also made the danger realize that Utrecht managed to score from one of the few chances it did get.
Only once in the first half did Utrecht really come close to Thomas Hooyberghs' goal, who made an excellent save on a shot from just about 2 meters out after Utrecht's left-wing striker was allowed to dribble into the penalty area almost unchallenged and put the striker clear in front of the goalkeeper. The biggest of a number of chances on the Eindhoven side was for Arnaut Groeneveld, who in the 35th minute, after a scrimmage in front of the Utrecht goal in which the ball ended up back in front of the goal via the post, suddenly found himself completely free but - startled - hastily shot high over. At halftime it was still 0-0.
PSV came out of the dressing room eagerly and, especially in the first 10 minutes after halftime, created a number of good chances in a short period of time that should have secured the win. Nevertheless, the score was limited to 1-0 thanks to a goal by Arnaut Groeneveld, who shot in from close range when a Steven Bergwijn cross was badly handled by a Utrecht defender and was headed at his feet. Less than 10 minutes later, PSV's failure to take advantage of every opportunity seemed to take its revenge. From one of Utrecht's few counter-attacks, the ball after a cross from the left ended up at the 2nd post, where it was shot in by a free-standing Utrecht player, 1-1. With 20 minutes left to play, PSV finally had enough time left to take the win and get what they deserved, although that made for an exciting final phase. The tension was finally broken by Steven Bergwijn, who completed an attack 8 minutes before time by tapping a ball in from the right, making it 2-1. In the injury time that the referee added to the score, striker Vincent Heilmann made it 3-1 when Youandi Renfurm sent him alone towards the goalkeeper, who passed in a controlled manner. All in all, a difficult but deserved victory for the B2.
