"And that's a hundred..."
After a week of rest, PSV F1 had the opportunity to take on UNA in their home match today. This match marked the debut at the highest level of referee Harm, who was in full control of the sporting match.
PSV started the match knowing that 85 goals had already been scored so far. Still 15 to go for the magic 100; that seems a little too much of a good thing to accomplish in 1 match.
The week's rest had done the boys good as they were eager to get going again. After a few missed chances, it was Luc who opened the scoring. A nice PSV attack ended with a powerful shot by Cody on the post, but Luc was attentive and scored the 1-0.
On the next attack, it was another hit. Baggio crowned a solo with a fine goal: 2-0.
In this phase UNA was completely overrun and it did not take long before the 5-0 was already on the board. First Ruud scored with his left via a diagonally placed shot (3-0). Then Robin prepared a goal from Cody (4-0). Bjorn also scored his weekly goal by taking a devastating shot from long distance (almost midline!): 5-0.
In the last 10 minutes of the first half UNA showed that they also had good players. Without really becoming dangerous, they offered good resistance. Just before halftime they scored again. A beautiful combination between Robin, Cody and Baggio was finished off nicely by the latter: 6-0.
6 goals in one half is of course nice, but to score 9 more in one half seems impossible. Would the PSV players succeed?
The second half started with a solo from James after which Jordan controlled the ball: 7-0.
The best attack of the morning involved star defenders Armando and James. From the left side of the field it went via 2 drives to the free Jordan on the right side of the field. He again scored in a controlled manner: 8-0
On the ninth goal, Armando was again the culprit. He enabled Luc to score his second goal: 9-0
UNA pulled back en masse to avoid a bigger beating, but between a forest of legs Ruud managed to find the net: 10-0
UNA was really out of it and the PSV players smelled "the hundredth". Full throttle they headed towards the UNA goal.
Through James (coolly in one-on-one), Cody (self-collected ball), Robin (pass from Cody) and the same Cody (shot) it was 14-0 in no time.
The last minute had come and would they succeed after all?
Fiercely encouraged by the reserve players, it was Cody who scored the celebration goal. With a magnificent solo and an equally beautiful shot (dynamite!) the 15-0 final score was set.
The boys celebrated this victory as if a championship had been won. This showed once again the strong team spirit.
For the real championship they have to wait 2 more weeks. With a win on November 17 the corks will pop!
Goals today: Luc (2x), Baggio (2x), Ruud (2x), Cody (4x), Bjorn, James, Jordan (2x), Robin
