In the 5th league round, PSV o15 faced Vitesse. It faced an opponent with mixed results so far. Last weekend it lost 5-0 to Feyenoord. While the previous weekend the team beat Ajax 2-0.

PSV had to be alert not to leave De Rijnstreek scoreless after losing to NEC.

Because the Eindhoven squad ended up in a traffic jam on the way to Vitesse, causing a delay of almost 30 minutes, the match started later (thanks to Vitesse for their flexibility).

Whether PSV had allowed themselves to be lulled to sleep on the bus you never know. But the fact is that Vitesse could have made it 1-0 within 20 seconds. However, the striker shot wildly over with the right.

So Vitesse opened brightly and PSV got into the game with sporadic play. After Vitesse shot the ball just wide in the 11th minute, PSV took the lead in the 14th minute. Stijn van der Put intercepted the ball halfway through Vitesse's half and enabled captain Damian Timan to play striker Yorbe Vertessen. With a nice move, Yorbe set himself free in front of the goal and he rounded very controlled and put PSV ahead against the odds.

PSV tried to defend the lead, but was the underlying party. However, without Vitesse getting any clear-cut chances. In the 28th minute, the home side came alongside. A corner was messily defended and landed around the 16 meters at the feet of an Arnhem player who took a hard shot. Jurre Schaafsma touched the ball, but it went high and hard into the roof of the goal: 1-1.

No more goals were scored before halftime. Both teams hit the side netting: Shurandy Sambo with a header after a free kick by Damian. And the Vitesse striker also hit the side netting.

In the second half, PSV had to go all out to decide the game in their favor. However, they failed to put an acceptable level on the mat today. Vitesse remained the better team and took the lead in the 41st minute. The striker had a chance to shoot from outside the 16 meters and his shot, including a bounce, was too powerful for the PSV goalkeeper: 2-1.

PSV had to try again to eliminate the deficit. And almost succeeded when 11 minutes before time a good attack via Dani Mathieu and Shurandy Sambo almost tapped the ball in by Yorbe.

Because PSV started to play 1 on 1 at the back in the closing stages, Vitesse got more space. And took advantage in the 63rd minute of a sloppy cross that was intercepted in the Arnhem half, after which they were in front of the Eindhoven goal in 3 passes and scored.

With that, the match was decided. PSV was absolutely incapable of forcing anything today and at times seemed as much forward as the bus on the way there in the traffic jam.

So PSV once again got off the bus in Gelderland without a point. Good thing there are no more Gelderland teams in the league......Next week's home game against Fc Utrecht.
