On the first autumnal Saturday in September, frontrunner PSV D2 played the topper against number 2 on the league table Baronie D1. Much was expected of this match. After the hard-fought 0-3 victory over Geldrop/AEK, the even slightly higher ranked Baronie might be able to make things more difficult for PSV. PSV started the match without the still injured Mink Peeters, of course present to encourage his team, and without Dante Rigo, Ties van den Eijnde and Mats Grotenbreg, who had joined the D1. The necessary reinforcement for the D2 came from D3 players Cody Gakpo, Ruud van Breemen and Luc Stempher, who played well.
From the start, PSV D2 showed who is boss at the Herdgang. It starts with a warning shot by Ertem Bölükbas in the 2nd minute that goes wide. In the same minute, Matthias Verreth lashed out, the goalkeeper had to let go of the hard shot and Cody was the first to tap in the rebound for the 1-0. Then comes a quarter of an hour with a lot of ball possession for PSV and a number of opportunities. First an attack on the right ends with a cross from Cody and Matthias who comes a toe short to tap in. Then a one-two between Giovanni Nicolaas and Ertem who delivers the ball to Cody in the sixteen-yard area, but Cody's shot flies over. The next opportunity is again for Cody who is put in position by the on-rushing Roel van Linschoten; now it is the goalkeeper who saves. In the 18th minute the goal is scored again. Action by Joey Konings on the left, cross and Cody shoots in diagonally: 2-0. Two minutes later the eagerness of the PSV players was again evident. A hard effort by Matthias is saved by the goalkeeper, the rebound is shot by Cody on the crossbar while the next rebound is for Joey who heads in for the 3-0. Moments later, Joey almost scores again when he follows a throw-in by Jeroen Swinkels and runs towards the goalkeeper who takes the shot with his foot out of the short corner. Five minutes before half time the 4-0 is scored. Matthias put Cody in front of the goalie with a cross and Cody rounded it off with a lovely Bergkamp stick. On the stroke of halftime it was also 5-0 when Gio with a beautiful pass in space put Matthias in front of the goalie and Matthias played the ball flawlessly past the goalie. So 5-0 at halftime, with a sovereign PSV and a match that never became a match. Still no goals against for defenders Ymanuel Hurkmans, Koen Vos, Roel van Linschoten and Jeroen Swinkels and of course goalkeeper Aaron van Engelen.
The first five minutes after halftime, PSV's concentration seems to be gone for a while. The first chance in the match for Baronie is then undone. PSV slowly picks up the thread. Jeroen shoots just wide from distance and a corner by Gio is worked wide by Koen with a half-take. Then the moment that had to come. A counter by Baronie ends with a shot by the striker, which Aaron half-turned away, but Roel was unable to clear. It is 5-1 and the first goal of the season is a fact. PSV is fed up, but not for long. Two minutes later it is already 6-1. A long, beautiful attack via Gio, Joey and Matthias finally ends in the sixteen with Ertem, who shoots hard into the roof of the goal. It takes PSV two minutes to make it 7-1. Jeroen sends Joey deep, Joey crosses from the left and Matthias shoots in at the first post. After fifteen minutes of play in the second half, PSV gets a free kick about 18 meters from the goal. Our Belgian specialist Matthias put himself behind the ball and again shot beautifully inside. It is already 8-1 and there is still fifteen minutes to play. After Ruud shot just wide, the next goal comes. Zohair Labyad takes a corner and Matthias kicks in the 9-1. In the last 10 minutes, the ambitious players hunt for the 10th goal. PSV went close a few times, but every time there was a foot in between or the ball went just wide. The biggest chance is for Zohair, who after an attack via Luc and Ruud gets free in front of the goalkeeper, but his shot is caught by the keeper. So it remains 9-1 in a game in which an impressive PSV put the number 2 on the ranking aside very easily.
