The first league game of the season for the C2 was an away game against the amateurs of VV Union.
Due to an injury wave, the C2 was forced to bring along some players from the D1. However, these boys, who were about two years younger than the opponent, held their own very well.
From the kickoff it was clear that Union had no offensive ambitions. With almost all players on their own half, Union wanted to try to get a point out of it. It was up to PSV to break through the fortress. And here the talents of coach Mart van Duren clearly struggled.
Only during the second half they played faster. The score still remained 0-0, until about 10 minutes before time. Then it was Nick Tielemans who, through a cross from Joep Zweegers, found himself alone in front of the goalkeeper. The opponents begged their own linesman for a flag signal for offside, but Nick lined up neatly behind the defenders at the moment of play. And with only the goalkeeper already on the ground still in front of him, he did not fail.
Even with a 1-0 deficit, Union C1 continued to play with 11 men in their own half. Thus, the score did not change much and PSV went back to Eindhoven with 3 points.
