After the 1-3 victory over Fc Utrecht last Saturday, PSV's o15 team faced VVV on Tuesday afternoon.
In the out game in Stadion De Koel, PSV won easily and convincingly with 0-5. Four of these goals were scored by Yorbe Vertessen, who was absent today. He was allowed to show his capabilities with the 016 today.
The home club's intentions were soon clear after the starting signal: score. Striker Jayden Braaf bit the brunt when he looked for the goal too high in the 3rd minute.
In the 6th minute, PSV deservedly took the lead. Right back Lars Koolen sent Beslan Sagov into the depths. His shot went well wide. So much so that Thijs Martens kept the ball in on the left and sent a pinpoint cross to Beslan, who had no trouble scoring the 1-0 from close range.
PSV remained the team with the most ball possession and the most chances/opportunities. But mainly due to sloppiness in the final pass or lack of sharpness in vision, the lead was not extended.
For example, Amin Doudah shot the ball over in a promising position. A cross from Thijs just did not reach Jayden. The resulting corner was put down by Damian Timan at the 2nd post where Mees Kreekels headed the ball well into the short corner, but the VVV goalie was able to save.
In the 18th minute Mees opened well with a long pass to Ian Maatsen. But even his wide pass just did not reach a fellow player.
PSV failed to push the lead to two or more goals. And then the cliché goes "you'll see that the goal falls on the other side". And so it did. In the 20th minute, VVV equalized when PSV dropped a stitch in the build-up. Four minutes later the game was completely upside down when VVV even took the lead. This goal was also preceded by a PSV mistake in the build-up. In that respect, VVV had a quality that many also like to see in Eindhoven: efficient use of chances.
Because even a big chance barely two minutes after the 1-2 was not taken. PSV was even lucky in the 29th minute when Damian cleverly took a free kick. However, the ball was at least 10 meters from the spot where the foul was committed. The otherwise well-managing referee let it continue and so Jayden was able to advance alone towards the Limburg goal. This time Jayden had no trouble getting into the net and scored the equalizer.
Just before half time PSV even took the lead again. Ian went through on the left. He seemed to lose the ball, but the ball fell to Dani Mathieu, who did not hesitate to take a shot from just outside the penalty area and put it in the top right corner: 3-2!
With the renewed lead, PSV went to the dressing rooms. Goal for the 2nd half: exploit the chances and keep the 3 points in Eindhoven.
However, the start of the second half was in practice far from the goal set. PSV swooned right from the first minute when a defender played back too softly and too short to goalkeeper Jurre Schaafsma. The VVV player was probably so shocked that his effort went just past the post.
PSV seemed to be shocked. Because the level of play went way down in the 2nd half. Unlike in the first half, it could hardly create more chances and fought mainly against itself.
In the 44th minute, VVV came alongside again and the way in which this happened was exemplary for the PSV game: a corner by the Limburg guests could not be cleared, allowing VVV to shoot the ball in: 3-3.
Did PSV still have chances to win? Yes indeed. But it was no coincidence that it almost got another lead twice from stoppages. In both cases Damian could not score. His first shot was caught by the keeper. His second splattered on the crossbar.
After VVV also came close to a surprise (a lob went just wide), the final chord was for PSV. On the right, substitute Stijn van der Put went on well and his cross went to another substitute. But Fodé Fofana unfortunately hit the ball completely the wrong way.
Thus the match ended in a goal-rich 3-3. For VVV a welcome and perhaps unexpected point in the relegation battle. For PSV, the grapes were sour: playing a lot of chances, not exploiting many of them and conceding a lot of (silly) goals. For those who regularly go to Philips Stadium, this should be recognizable, I would almost say.
Next Saturday the last home game is scheduled: AZ will visit then.
