A Vitesse player came alone in front of the PSV goalie but Niek Schiks was alert and saved the effort. PSV had a few more chances before finally sealing the game in the 35th minute, when Iggy Houben shot the 0-3 from the back line via the inside of the post.
PSV continued to control the game from the beginning of the second half. In the first part of the second half, however, it created few opportunities. And those few opportunities it did get were not taken advantage of. Vitesse could not really make a fist either so it seemed like the game was lurching towards the end. Ruben crossed the ball and Iggy Houben tapped in his second goal of the match, 0-4. Two minutes later a tight shot by Julian Kuijpers was turned into a corner and from that corner Yaël Gil y Muinos headed the ball against the crossbar. On the counterattack, Vitesse had two good chances, neither of which was taken. In the last minute, the home team managed to score anyway. After PSV lost the ball easily in the attack, Vitesse scored on the counter attack, 1-4. This seemed to be the final score, but in injury time Jaivy Lourens started a long rush on the left side of the pitch. He rounded several Vitesse players, laid the ball wide and it was Shi-jon Martina who was able to tap in the 1-5.
