The report
On Saturday, Willem II O13 was a guest at the Herdgang, for the league match against PSV O13. In the away game PSV had won 1-7, but on Saturday the score was not so high, in a moderate game PSV did manage to win 2-1.
PSV's objective was clear, they had to win to keep the connection with the top teams. After the first whistle it was clear that Willem II had no intention of giving PSV space to play football. They keep the spaces very small and immediately put pressure on the PSV players. A nice challenge for PSV to get to their favorite positional play.
In the 5th minute it looks like PSV is going to open the score, Renzo Tytens manages to get a good cross in front of the goal, the free Michon Roelofs is able to head in, but hits the ball totally wrong which makes it go past. After a rush along the sideline it is Tim van de Heuvel who shoots the ball into the short corner in the 12th minute: 1-0. Five minutes later it is Emir Bars who releases the ball well in midfield and delivers a good deep pass to Renzo. The latter manages to shake off his direct opponent and scores brilliantly from a difficult angle: 2-0. Will PSV make it a goal-fest again, just like in the away match? Willem II's players were in no mood to participate. Playing as a group, they prevented PSV from going further ahead. There were chances for PSV, but apart from a ball on the post, they were not really dangerous. But Willem II also had some great chances to score in the first half, but they were not really lucky either. Still Willem II scored in the 27th minute, so both teams went to rest with a score that could have gone either way.
Coach Tim Wolf indicated at halftime that he was not satisfied with the PSV game. Why in a midweek match Feyenoord were beaten and a few days later against Willem II they played with far too low a tempo, was also a mystery to the coach. More experience was also expected in the second half. But the half did not really get much better. Willem II kept playing in a group and PSV could not play through. As a result, it was not a good game, but one that was mainly played in midfield. The PSV players showed more drive than in the first half, but were unable to find their rhythm due to the play of Willem II. Thus the victory could still be celebrated afterwards.
Not a good game today, but with character in the second half they showed that they can pull out a victory. Now the boys have a week off to enjoy the carnival, after which they can start recharging for the remainder of the competition. On Feb. 17 N.E.C. will be the guest in Eindhoven.
