    The report

Before the game I didn't think N.E.C. would play so defensively. We knew they were going to play compact football, but just staying on their own half we didn't think.

N.E.C. played with five defenders and four midfielders and one deep striker, but PSV kept pressing to force a goal. In the 7th minute, for example, Beslan Sagov, from a corner by Nigel Thomas, headed the crossbar. PSV kept pushing but had to watch out for N.E.C., which also countered dangerously a few times. But it did not get beyond PSV's sixteen-meter line.

The second half began as it had ended. N.E.C. continued to play defensive football, but surprised PSV's defense with a counter. From that, the 1-0 was scored. Furthermore, it remained difficult for PSV to create a good chance to force the 1-1. In the 67th minute, PSV suffered another disappointment. A PSV defender headed the ball into his own goal, 2-0, and so the match ended in N.E.C.'s favor.
