The report
December is all about North Holland for PSV O15 this season. The team plays two more games before the winter break and in both the opponent comes from that province. In league play, it first plays AZ and then it meets Volendam. Both teams are currently above PSV. Today's opponent, AZ, is even the proud leader. It has only lost one point in eleven matches (2-2 against Ajax) and has a clear goal difference of 28 for and only 6 against. An opponent of stature, then, for fifth-ranked PSV.
The first shot on goal in the match, in the third minute, came from the PSV side. However, the goalkeeper was able to easily catch Milan van de Riet's shot. A minute later, a goal was scored without a shot on goal. Goalkeeper Aron van Lare unluckily tapped a hard cross from the flank into his own goal: 1-0. A very unfortunate moment for the goalie who has saved many times this season. After AZ shot wide in the 10th minute, PSV got better and better in the match. It also got some opportunities, especially because Jasper Huijzer got through on the right side. But a Milan effort was just blocked and Mylian Jimenez saw two shots go wide and over the goal. Just before half time AZ had another chance after a slip in the PSV defense. No goal was scored, so both teams went to the warm dressing room with a 1-0 score.
In the second half, AZ immediately had a great chance to make it 2-0, but the AZ player's shot went wide. Moments later, Aron saved when the fast striker had a chance to shoot into the short corner, and a minute later Mylian had a chance to strike from 20 meters. He could not put enough power and speed into the shot to outsmart the AZ goalie. After an hour of play, Milan had a chance to equalize. A free kick was put in by Mylian, cleared by AZ after which Mohamed Nassoh came to shoot the deflected ball. He didn't hit the ball well, but by chance the ball landed at the second post at the feet of Milan, who was so frightened that he couldn't take full advantage. PSV was now playing with three men at the back to try to force something. But instead of an equalizer, AZ extended their lead. A player was given too much space on the edge of the box, was allowed to turn and then rounded beautifully by kicking the ball full into the crossbar. That AZ put the flattered 3-0 on the scoreboard just before time was only good for statistics.
PSV thus lost for the third time. Again from an opponent that was above the Eindhoveners. And again gave up goals in a top match. Of the ten goals it conceded in the entire league, it conceded no less than nine in top games. And only one in the duels against teams below it. In that respect, these statistics do not bode well for the last game before the winter break next week. Volendam comes to De Herdgang and they are just above PSV in fourth place. It will be a matter of turning those statistics around.
