The Report
After three weeks of preparation and two practice matches (3-0 and 6-0 wins against Willem II and KV Kortrijk, respectively), the O15 now faced Ajax "for real." It could grab a prize right away, as the match was for the Super Cup.
The beginning of the match went dramatically for PSV. It failed to play football and saw a sharp Ajax take the lead after only two minutes, after a free kick from just outside the penalty area ended up in the goal behind Aron van Lare. It was only a minute later that Nawaaz Landfelt cleared a ball off the line, otherwise the game would have been tied within three minutes. Yet it turned out to be only a stay of execution. Because in the eighth minute, the home team still made it 2-0. PSV had to stand back to avoid being completely finished off. And very slowly it focused. However, it took until the 25th minute before it only showed itself in front of the Amsterdam goal. But Jasper Huijzer's shot went wide. As Ajax also failed to score more, both teams went to rest with a 2-0 score.
After tea, PSV got into the game better. It was brighter and won more duels than before the break. Both teams created chances and opportunities. Aron made a fine save on a shot from close range and the Amsterdam goalkeeper was just able to turn Jasper's effort into a corner in the 55th minute. This corner did lead to the tying goal: Mylian Jimenez crossed at the far post and Dylan Hopman headed hard onto the bar. The rebound was for Jenson Seelt, who headed the ball into the goal: 2-1. Not much later PSV had the chance to equalize. Dyon Dorenbosch, after good preparatory work by Jasper, hit the goalkeeper. PSV smelled blood and had a few more opportunities to get a penalty. But unfortunately it did not come to that. Ajax therefore won the Super Cup. Compliments for the team that, despite falling behind quickly, managed to find the morale to make a real game of it in the second half.
Next week the league starts in which PSV O15 plays at home against NEC.
