Although Feyenoord already decided the league on Friday night by winning their last game of the season against FC Twente, so there was nothing left at stake for PSV on Saturday, the team closed the second half of the league in style with a convincing win over Sparta. Freewheeling, PSV left Sparta no chance to get into the match, and already within half an hour of play the balance of power was expressed in a 0-3 score.
In the 10th minute, Roel sent Joel alone towards the goalkeeper who saw his early run out punished by the striker with a watched kick into the right corner. Less than a minute after the kickoff, PSV regained possession of the ball and Justin cleverly passed the ball to Bobby who shot the 0-2. Also for the 0-3 came the assist from Justin, who headed a pass from Jordan in the 16 to the free Joel who poked the ball in over the keeper. After Arne defused Sparta's only dangerous move in the 32nd minute with a stylish 'ball for the crowd', Cody made it 0-4 at halftime when, in a scrimmage in front of the goal after a low free kick from Bobby, he got the ball at his feet and shot in.
Although it was Sparta that scored the 1st goal in the 2nd half after PSV lost the ball, this one too would be completely dominated by PSV. Soon after the setback, PSV made it 1-5 when Bobby calmly waited for the incoming Joel after a good action on the left of the penalty area and then allowed him to tap his wide ball clear in front of the goal. The 1-6 in the 62nd minute then came courtesy of Cody. On the edge of the 16, he caught a ball badly cleared by the outrunning Sparta goalkeeper, and immediately bent it beautifully over everyone in the abandoned goal. Finally, 10 minutes later, substitute Yasin took advantage of some fumbling in the Sparta defence, which suddenly put the ball at his feet in the penalty area, and he was quick to take advantage of it. Sparta's beautifully played 2-7 was only for the statistics.
The competition is over for the O16. After a lesser 1st half of the season in which the team nevertheless managed to qualify for the champions league in which only the 6 strongest teams in the league play, the team played an excellent 2nd half of the season in which they eventually finished 2nd, only 1 point behind champion Feyenoord. A very good result therefore for which compliments to the whole group. We wish everyone a wonderful vacation season!
