Visiting FC in the Cathedral City, you know it's always tough to win. And so it is today. Not the best weather but a field that looks reasonable considering the conditions of the last few days. We started as we have become accustomed to in the past. We put Utrecht under pressure and also got some small chances. Unfortunately our aim is not yet sharp in the first half. FC does not really come close to our goal and otherwise there is always a defender or Yanick who takes the ball in his safe arms. We go to rest with 0 - 0.
After the break we continue on the same footing and now there are chances. Martijn, Sam and Matthias cannot find the net. But we remain patient and in the organization. And then after 80 minutes Karim comes up well on the left, goes into a one-two and gets the ball back and passes to Philippe and he manages to score from close range. 0 - 1. A deserved lead. The score stays that way because we don't manage to capitalize on the opportunities we get. Until the 92nd minute. Then Utrecht manages to shoot at goal for the first time in this match. Yanick stops and boxes the ball to his left. And then what we did not hope for happens. Only the no. 9 of Utrecht reacts and manages to outsmart Yanick. 1 - 1.
And actually a hangover after this match. Our first real shot on goal and the ball is in the net. This feels so unfair but it is reality. We just give away a deserved victory. Unjust but true. Men this should be a lesson for the future. We must not let this happen again. We have to decide games like this earlier and if we can't keep the focus on the fact that we can also take a 1-0 lead.
Saturday AZ at home and then we can show again what we are capable of this season against a leader.
We have to look forward, because, the beauty of the past is that it is over.
