PSV forgets to score against De Graafschap
At a cold Herdgang, PSV O16 did not play a game to get hot from on Saturday. With a selection that was not quite up to par, this time mainly due to injuries, the farmers from Eindhoven played De Graafschap, one of the new opponents in the second half of the competition.
Perhaps because of the snow or the cold, the game was slow to get going. Only after fifteen minutes of play did Mylian give the bench its first stir as he fired a nice shot from twenty meters into De Graafschap's goal, but had to watch as the goalkeeper neatly tapped the ball out of the crossbar. However, it was not until almost fifteen minutes later that PSV had their first big chance for a goal. In an attack the ball suddenly fell at the feet of striker Milan, who shot hastily and uncontrollably in front of the Doetinchem goal from the right. Without goals, but also without being troubled by De Graafschap, the teams went into the warm dressing rooms.
After a reminder at halftime of the agreements that had been made, a somewhat better PSV came onto the field after the break and a somewhat more dynamic match ensued, in which PSV again had the better chances. In the 47th minute that resulted in the 1-0 for PSV when this time Milan reacted sharper to a ball that bounced up in front of him in the goalmouth, after it was headed through by Jesse and half cleared. Five minutes later Milan had the 2-0 on his shoe when he was sent into the sixteen-meter area by substitute Tim with a nice pass on the left. Milan chipped the ball beautifully over the outflowing keeper, but saw the ball go just over the goal via the crossbar. A minute later the same Tim had a good chance when he could only go at the goalkeeper, who saved well and prevented the 2-0. From one of the few counterattacks that followed, De Graafschap managed to equalize. After the referee had ruled out offside and De Graafschap were allowed to continue, a shot from the right inside the penalty area ended up in the goal behind Rick, via the left post with a bit of luck. Mo had a great chance in the closing stages when he headed a cross in at the far post, but his effort was tipped out of the corner by the De Graafschap goalkeeper. It was a draw, but PSV could and should have won based on the odds.
Next weekend there is no league program. The O16 leaves next Thursday for a tournament to Riga. Also some boys from the team are going with the Dutch national team to Portugal. Good luck everyone!
