After the fine victory over Vitesse in the cup competition earlier this week, the B2 did themselves a disservice in the first league game after the winter break against higher-ranked Feyenoord. Lack of concentration and personal mistakes caused the team to fall behind from the first minute on and although PSV managed to equalize twice, Feyenoord took the win immediately after the break.

PSV made it particularly difficult for themselves by conceding a goal both in the first minute after the signal and immediately after half-time. The 0-1 fell from a corner, with a Feyenoord player taking the ball at the far post and firing it into the far corner. Shortly after, PSV had a great opportunity to quickly equalize when the referee awarded a penalty for pushing. However, captain Philippe Rommens did not take advantage of this opportunity and saw his penalty kick tapped out of the corner by the goalkeeper. Less than 10 minutes later the referee awarded Feyenoord a penalty after central defender Gökhan Kardes stopped a ball that threatened to go over him with an outstretched arm. Feyenoord did take advantage of the opportunity, 0-2. PSV recovered well after this setback and put things right before the halftime signal with two beautiful goals within five minutes. In the 34th minute striker Matthias Verreth came through on the side and put the ball ready for the incoming Steven Bergwijn, who headed in, 1-2. Matthias was also involved in the equalizer when he engaged in an aerial duel with the Rotterdam goalkeeper, who as a result could not handle the ball properly and punched the ball at the feet of Philippe Rommens, who struck directly from 20 meters.

All the way back in the game, PSV started the 2nd half. And again Feyenoord put PSV in a doldrum as early as the first minute, although again the team was to blame. The defense was collectively asleep when a Feyenoord player entered the box from the left and was able to pick a corner unchallenged and shoot in the 2-3. The winning goal would prove to be the result, as both PSV and Feyenoord missed a number of big chances in the second half. Feyenoord hit the bar in the 20th minute, and PSV failed to score three times when facing the Feyenoord goalkeeper. All in all an instructive match that ended in a defeat without any real superiority, with which the B2 did themselves short.
