  1. Match report

The visitors arrived far too late at De Herdgang sports park for the match to start 35 minutes later than initially scheduled.

Despite this delay, PSV started the match energetically and the first opportunity was for the home club. A free kick by Mylian in the fourth minute went just wide of the goal. The visitors' first shot in the seventh minute also went just wide. Ajax put PSV under pressure early on and that produced several chances for the visitors. In the eleventh minute Kevin was able to turn away a shot by an Ajax player. One minute later, the visitors took the lead. A deep ball through the center was tapped past Kevin by the Ajax striker, 0-1. A few minutes later the lead was even doubled. A free kick from the side went past everyone and everything. An Ajax player picked up the ball and shot into the far corner, 0-2. Ajax then pushed on and PSV tried to regain control of the game. However, PSV did not manage to take control of the game in the first half. Nevertheless, PSV got through at times but did not create any chances. Ajax remained threatening but they did not score either.

PSV started the second half strongly and put Ajax under pressure from the start. Ajax came out dangerous at times but in the early stages of the second half neither team created any real chances. In the 52nd minute, PSV scored the tying goal. Dyon suddenly found himself free in front of the goalie and scored the 1-2. PSV went in search of the equalizer but it was the visitors who scored in the 57th minute. After unnecessary ball loss by PSV, an Ajax player finally tapped the ball past the goalkeeper, 1-3. Despite this deficit, PSV pressed once more and troubled the Ajax defense several times. In the 62nd minute, PSV had a great opportunity. After Milan won a duel, Dyon got free in front of the goalkeeper. His effort was turned away by the Ajax goalie. One minute later, the Ajax goalie had big problems with a distance shot by Joep. The Ajax defense faltered but in the end PSV could not score again. That Ajax was able to score 1-4 from a counter in the last minute was just for statistics.

PSV let themselves be trounced by the visitors in the first half. In the second half, PSV was largely the superior side and had plenty of opportunities to equalize. The 1-4 defeat was therefore flattered.
