The Report
PSV O13 could do good business today by winning against Vitesse O13. Vitesse is - if they win a catch-up game - in a tie for second place with Sparta and Willem II, who both have played one game less than PSV. But PSV's engine has not been running smoothly the last few games so it remains to be seen how they will perform today.
In the match-talk, the PSV players are warned about Vitesse's striker. This one is clearly further ahead physically than the rest of both teams, so they will have to guard against that. At the kickoff and the first ball Vitesse delivers, it is immediately clear that the guests will be looking for this striker frequently with the long ball. But PSV looks eager and fierce and is the superior party. In the 4th minute it is PSV that appears in front of the goal of the Vitesse goalkeeper, who manages to turn the ball into a corner with difficulty. From this corner, which came low to the ground, Ruben van Bommel shot the ball hard into the net, 0-1. PSV continued to dominate after the opening goal and went in search of a second goal. In the 25th minute, it is Jaivy Lourens who gives his opponent the slip and gets to the back line. He brings the ball in front of the goal. In the rush, it is two PSV players who try with a shot. But each time the Vitesse goalkeeper manages to get another foot against it. But the third time is the charm and Sven Simons' shot hits the net. With a 2-0 halftime score, the team headed to the locker room for the break.
At the start of the second half, we see a brighter Vitesse and a lesser PSV. PSV cannot match the high level of the game anymore. Still, it is to the credit of the PSV defense and the team spirit that Vitesse does not create really big chances. But in the 49th minute, Vitesse gets the goal they were chasing. The last ten minutes are therefore more exciting than good, with two teams doing everything they can to end the game winningly. But PSV gave nothing away and deservedly kept the three points in Eindhoven. With four games to go, PSV O13 can now secretly start thinking about the championship. But first, next Tuesday a cup game against Brabant United. If they show the same football as today, they should be able to reach the semi-finals. Come and encourage the boys, all support is welcome. Kick-off: 17:30 at De Herdgang.
